In 2009, 56 DRE schools were conducted throughout the country, an increase from the 51 schools conducted in 2008. California once again conducted the most schools with nine, followed by Arizona with four, and Missouri and Texas with three each.Other Drug Evaluation and Classification (DEC) states conducting DRE schools in 2009 included Arkansas (2), Florida (2), Georgia (1), Hawaii (1), Idaho (1) Indiana (2), Iowa (1), Kentucky (1). Louisiana (1), Maine (1), Maryland (2), Massachusetts (1), Minnesota (1), Nebraska (1), Nevada (1) New Hampshire (2), New Jersey (2) New Mexico (1), New York (1), North Carolina (2), Oklahoma (1), Oregon (1), Pennsylvania (1), South Carolina (1), South Dakota (1), Tennessee (1), Utah (1), Washington (2), and Wyoming (1).
According to DRE School Course Manager reports collected in 2009, a total of 1,079 students completed DRE classroom training in the 55 schools taught nationally.
Twelve DEC program states plus the District of Columbia did not conduct in-state DRE schools in 2009 (Alaska, Colorado, District of Columbia, Delaware, Illinois, Kansas, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Wisconsin).
Outside of the U.S., Canada conducted eight DRE Schools training a total of 180 police officers.
